Merrist Wood College was awarded a zoo licence in June 2018, allowing it to share its collection of exotic animals, some of which are of conservation importance, with the wider community. The College’s Animal Management Centre includes arid and tropical biomes and a nocturnal room, which houses a wide variety of species.
1877 - Merrist Wood House built, stable block constructed near farm cottage and two lodges erected at end of Coombe Lane, the main entrance. 1918 - Merrist Wood Estate sold by Shrubb family to stockbroker Harold Arbuthnot and used as private residence.
