Description area. Dates of existence. 1914 - 1988. History. Founded 29 September 1914 as Purley County Secondary School. The school was single sex throughout its history and a grammar school until it became comprehensive in September 1971. Closed 31 August 1988.
The cane for sixth-form boys. One of the most interesting things about the figures first released for Purley High was the revelation that occasionally the school even used the cane for sixth-form boys (who could be aged 17 or even 18). In 1976/7 there were six such canings. As always the fuss quickly died down.
12 de nov. de 2023 · The school was Purley County Grammar School from 1914 to 1969, becoming Purley Grammar School for Boys and then, in 1973, P Purley High School for Boys existed from 1914 to 1988. Originally located in Purley from 1914, in 1936 it relocated to Placehouse Lane, Old Coulsdon, London Borough of Croydon.
