Following his service in Burma and once back on English soil, he decided that off-duty life in the British Army was too dull and opted, instead, to move to Nairobi, Kenya , where he found work as a newspaper editor and a male model, appearing in magazine ads and as an extra in several movies, including The Thief of Baghdad (1924).
