7 de abr. de 2019 · Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was the daughter of the Scottish Lord Glamis, who became the 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, Elizabeth was educated at home. She was a descendant of the Scottish King, Robert the Bruce. Brought up to duty, she worked to nurse troops in World War I when her home was used as a hospital for the wounded.

Elizabeth betätigte sich als Hilfskrankenschwester. Ihre Familie musste im Ersten Weltkrieg zwei persönliche Verluste hinnehmen – ihr Bruder Fergus Bowes-Lyon fiel 1915 in der Schlacht bei Loos, ein anderer Bruder, Michael Bowes-Lyon, wurde gefangen genommen und kehrte später schwer verwundet zur Familie zurück.
