In 1253 the town and castle of Langenburg were inherited by the lords of Hohenlohe, after the lords of Langenburg had become extinct. During the Interregnum the Hohenlohe sided with the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg and defeated the count of Henneberg and his coalition at the Battle of Kitzingen gaining Uffenheim in the aftermath.
Ernst II. Ernst, 7th Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (Ernst Wilhelm Friedrich Carl Maximilian; 13 September 1863 – 11 December 1950) was a German aristocrat and Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. He served as the Regent of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha during the minority of his wife's cousin, Duke Charles Edward, from 1900 to 1905.
He was baptised at Osborne House on 10 February 1866 and his godparents were his paternal great-aunt, Princess Feodora of Leiningen, his maternal uncle Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden (represented by Hermann, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg) and his paternal uncle Prince Eduard of Leiningen (represented by Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha ).
