October 15, 1910 (Saturday) At 8:00 am, Walter Wellman and five crewmates took off from Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the dirigible America on an attempt to become the first people to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The flight ended after 450 miles (720 km) and three days, and the six men were rescued by the ship Trent.
