Charles Sanders Peirce (1839—1914) C.S. Peirce was a scientist and philosopher best known as the earliest proponent of pragmatism. An influential thinker and polymath, Peirce is among the greatest of American minds. His thought was a seminal influence upon William James, his life long friend, and upon John Dewey, his one-time student.

Charles Sanders Peirce nasceu no dia 10 de setembro de 1839 e faleceu em 1914. Foi um filósofo e físico norte-americano que assentou as bases da semiótica. Era filho do eminente matemático Benjamin Peirce, professor da Universidade Harvard. Cursou estudos de Química nesta última universidade.
