Johann Strauss II, the Waltz King, was an Austrian composer who left an indelible mark on the world of music. His waltzes and operettas were celebrated for their charm, grace, and vivacious rhythms. Despite the considerable challenges he faced in his early career, Strauss II’s talent and determination propelled him to the pinnacle of success.
Verfassung von 1921 bildeten, stimmte Johann II. den Forderungen der oppositionellen Volkspartei weitgehend zu (→ Schlossabmachungen). Aufgrund des Sparkassaskandals löste Johann II. 1928 den Landtag auf, zwang die Regierung um Gustav Schädler zur Demission und lieh dem Land grössere Gelder zur Sanierung der Sparkassa.
Johann II allowed his personal taste to manifest itself in the Princely Gallery, parting with several pictures because he disliked them, many of which were sold at major auctions. Important works by Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640) left the Collections in this way, such as “Samson and Delilah” in 1880, and as late as 1921 the “Massacre of the Innocents”.
