Kundun is distinct within Scorsese's filmography, focusing on Buddhism and international politics. Yet it seems almost anonymous, mostly acting as a basic biopic of the 14th Dalai Lama. Though what is respectable about Kundun is that it treat its story very seriously, rather than falling into Hollywood cliché or patronising us.
