Between the summers of 1976 and 1977, a young man named David Berkowitz terrorized New York as he indiscriminately gunned down innocent young people in their cars.
David Berkowitz wurde als Richard David Falco in Brooklyn geboren. Seine Mutter gab ihn zur Adoption frei. Innerhalb seiner ersten Lebenswoche wurde er von Nathan und Pearl Berkowitz adoptiert. He became known as Son of Sam, which was the name he used in letters sent to newspapers during his killing spree.
David Berkowitz’s car was one of those cars, but investigators initially pegged him as a witness rather than a suspect. On August 10, 1977, police searched Berkowitz’s car. Inside they found a rifle, a duffel bag filled with ammunition, maps of the crime scenes, and an unsent Son of Sam letter- addressed to Sergeant Dowd of the Omega task force.
