Wellington College is an English independent day and boarding school located in the village of Crowthorne, Berkshire. It educates over 1,000 boys and girls from 13 to 18 and was built as a national monument to the first Duke of Wellington.
Wellington College, Crowthorne was founded under Royal Charter from Queen Victoria, as a national memorial to this Great Duke following his death in 1852. Once built Wellington College was opened in 1859 as a boy’s boarding school for the education of orphans of the British armed forces but has now expanded to become one of the nation’s co-educational boarding schools.
Wellington College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 13 to 18 occupying 400 acres of beautiful parkland in Crowthorne, Berkshire. It was established as a monument to the Duke of Wellington and to educate the orphan sons of army officers, with Queen Victoria laying the foundation stone in 1856. Today the College is home to 1,100 pupils of which 80% are boarders.
