Faubus directly questioned the sanctity of the federal court system and the authority of the United States Supreme Court's desegregation ruling while nine African American high school students sought an education at the all-white Little Rock Central High School.

Central houses the Little Rock School District’s International Studies Magnet Program, offering opportunities in foreign language and international studies. Central provides four or more levels of foreign language study, including Advanced Placement, for French, Latin, German, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.
