Though the Department of Justice dropped Bonds’ nearly decade-long steroids prosecution in 2015, many still believe he used steroids—and his long-time ex-girlfriend, Kimberly Bell, testified under oath in 2011 that the slugger attributed his 1999 elbow injury to steroid use.
So probably started during the 1999 season, and really started seeing the effects during the 2000 season. This also coincides with the idea that he was motivated to start using PEDs after being jealous of how much love McGwire and Sosa got in 1998. Reply reply.

That by itself is a Hall of Fame-caliber career. His 99.6 WAR would be third all-time among left fielders, and he led the league in that category for four straight years from 1990-1993.
