Die Festung Schweidnitz wurde während des Siebenjährigen Krieges mehrfach belagert. Durch ihre Position war sie immer eine wichtige Nachschubbasis für die preußischen Truppen in Schlesien. Über den Fluss konnte der Nachschub von der Ostsee herangeführt werden und dann weiter zu den Kriegsgebieten in Böhmen.
