Officer Training Corps. OTCs were formed in 1908 at Universities and Public Schools to attract young men into the army and carry out training sufficient to allow the recruit to be commissioned at a later date. There were 23 OTC contingents of the ‘Senior Division’ at Universities and 166 of the ‘Junior Division’ at schools.
The Canadians left in 1945 and there was a drastic change in the character of the camp as it became a training centre for the National Service army, including the famous Mons Officer Cadet School. It also became the home of depots and training centres for eight Corps of the British Army as well as the newly-formed Parachute Regiment.

Former President David Granger succeeded Colonel Pilgrim as Commander in 1979. “The People’s National Congress extends sincere condolences to Colonel Pilgrim’s widow and children,” the statement concluded.
He also served at Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot, where it was estimated that around 40,000 officer cadets passed through his parade ground. Adrian Freer was commissioned into the Parachute Regiment from Mons Officer Cadet School in 1972. His regimental service included tours in all three parachute battalions; platoon commander and adjutant in 1 PARA, a rifle company commander in 3 PARA and commanding officer 2 PARA as well as Commander 5 Airborne Brigade.
