Family [ edit] Ortrud was born on 19 December 1925, in Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Her parents were the Prince Albrecht of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1863–1948) and his second wife, Princess Hertha of Ysenburg and Büdingen (1883–1972), daughter of Bruno, 3rd Prince of Ysenburg and Büdingen .

Ruled jointly in Schleswig, John and Frederick, brothers, ruled together, and after the death of John, Frederick, kept the co-rulership with his nephew, Christian II. In 1523 the latter was deposed in both Denmark and Schleswig. They were also in succession Kings of Denmark: John 1481–1513, Christian 1513–23, Frederick 1523–33.
Biography. Princess Louise Charlotte Friederike of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg was born on 5 March 1749 at Glücksburg Castle. Her father was Frederick, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. Her mother, Henriette Augusta of Lippe-Detmold, was a daughter of Simon Henry Adolph, Count of Lippe-Detmold.
