She had written four novels, including Wigs on the Green (1935), before the success of The Pursuit of Love in 1945, which she followed with Love in a Cold Climate (1949), The Blessing (1951) and Don't Tell Alfred (1960).

  3. 11 de jan. de 2016 · It can be seen there though that the reason "wigs on the green" is a more "costly quarrel" is that a wig would have cost a lot more than a "bonnet" (Scottish head-covering). I think it's likely that was just a joke, and the two phrases had the same metaphorical meaning. Phrases: (1) bonnets on the green, a quarrel. Cf.
