His erotic illustrations depicting men engaged in acts of sex with one another were given to his friend, Edward le Bas, in 1959 and marked “very private.”

Duncan Grant, vars far Bartle Grant var officer, vistades i Indien och Burma mellan 1887 och 1894. Åren 1894 till 1899 gick han i Hillbrow School i Rugby, där han undervisades av en teckningslärare och blev intresserad av japanska tryck.
