Frank Thomas is a native Californian (born in Santa Monica). During World War II he was head of an Air Force Animation Unit, and from 1946 to 1966, in his spare time, was the piano player for the famous Dixieland Jazz group, The Firehouse Five plus Two with Ward Kimball, another of the Nine Old Men, formed with other Disney artists in 1948.
Franklin "Frank" Thomas was an American movie animator. He was one of Disney's Nine Old Men. He worked on many Disney movies until he retired in 1978. Later on, he wrote the animation book The Illusion of Life with good friend and fellow animator Ollie Johnston.
Thomas was directing animator for several memorable villains, including the evil stepmother Lady Tremaine in Cinderella, the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, Captain James Hook in Peter Pan, and story consultant in Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland .
