Charles Napier Hemy was a British marine painter and one of the most important representatives of the Newlyn School, a group of artists who settled in a small fishing village in Cornwall towards the end of the 19th century. Born in Newcastle as one of three sons of a composer, the family lived briefly in Australia between 1852 and 1855.
