7 de jun. de 2022 · In 1874, Maria lost her only daughter Marie in an entirely new way: The girl married the English Prince Alfred, a younger son of Queen Victoria, and Maria was not happy about the union. She distrusted and disliked Victoria, once insulting her as a “fish-wife” and complaining to her daughter that “it is difficult to take such a mother-in-law seriously”.

Maria Alexandrovna (Russian: Мария Александровна), born Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine (8 August 1824 – 3 June 1880), was Empress of Russia as the first wife and political adviser of Emperor Alexander II. She was one of the founders of the Russian Red Cross Society.
