The Legacy of Georges Seurat. Seurat was only 31 when he died, yet he left behind an influential body of work, comprising seven monumental paintings, hundreds of drawings and sketches, and around 40 smaller-scale paintings and sketches. Although his oeuvre is relatively small in quantity, it had a lasting impact.

Georges Pierre Seurat was a French post-Impressionist artist. He is best known for devising the painting techniques known as chromoluminarism as well as pointillism. While less famous than his paintings, Seurat's conté crayon drawings have also garnered a great deal of critical appreciation.

Georges Seurat peindra sa tante sur son lit de mort en 1887. En 1877, il s'inscrit à l' École des beaux-arts de Paris où il fréquente l'atelier d'Henri Lehmann, mais sans briller par ses travaux. He was born to a wealthy family as the youngest child of Antoine Chrysostome Seurat and his wife, Ernestine Seurat. He had older siblings, Émile Augustin, his brother and a sister, Marie-Berthe.
