A igreja gótica foi construída por Richard Fitzalan, o 11º Conde de Arundel, em 1380. Com a devoção dos mosteiros em 1544 por Henrique VIII, a igreja foi transferida para um local de culto anglicano, mas o duque de Norfolk permaneceu católico.

Casou-se em 10 de abril de 1364 com Lady Alice FitzAlan, filha de Ricardo Fitzalan, 3.º Conde de Arundel por sua esposa Leanor de Lancaster. Com sua esposa, teve quatro filhos e seis filhas. [6] Todos os filhos morreram sem filhos legítimos, após o que as filhas e seus filhos se tornaram co-herdeiras da Casa de Holland.
Ricardo Fitzalan, 3.º Conde de Arundel, (1306 no Castelo de Arundel, Sussex – 24 de Janeiro de 1376), também estilizado como "Conde de Surrey" em 12 de Abril de 1361. Ele casou-se com Isabel le Despenser , a quem repudiou, mais tarde ganhando a anulação do Papa Clemente VI .
