Rear-Admiral Leveson-Gower (pronounced Lewison-Gore) was the second son of John, 1st Earl Gower, and his third wife, Mary, the daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Tufton, Earl of Thanet and widow of Anthony Grey, Earl of Harold.
