Founded in 1916, Sacramento City College had several locations before settling at the current location on the corner of Freeport and Sutterville in 1926. The 73-acre campus is home to approximately 520,000 square feet of assignable space, and has been undergoing significant renovation over the last two decades as facilities from the 1930s and 1950s require modernization.

Certificates of Recognition are intended to certify that students are prepared to meet specific occupational needs, upgrade skills, or advance in an existing career. Certificates of Recognition require fewer than 16 units with a grade of "C" or better in each course. At least 12 units toward the degree must be completed at Sacramento City College.
