13 de jun. de 2023 · Margaret (Madge) Shelton and Mary Shelton (died 1560) were two sisters in Tudor England, one of whom may have been a mistress of Henry VIII of England. Mary was a maid-of-honour and poet. She was the daughter of Sir John Shelton and Anne Boleyn (1475 – 1555), herself a daughter of William Boleyn and Margaret Butler.

This must have been a horrifying time for both Madge and Mary Shelton though arguably more horrific for young Madge who not only lost her beloved cousin and Queen but her betrothed also. Imagine how shocking and shameful it must have felt for her to be related to those people and have others within the King’s court gossip about the people you cared about and judge you also.
8 de jun. de 2018 · A daughter named in historical records as ‘Madge’ Shelton is said to have been a mistress of King Henry VIII but it is not known if ‘Madge’ refers to Margaret or Mary Shelton. The preponderance of evidence indicates it was Mary and she became Henry VIII’s mistress for about six months in 1534-35, causing friction between Queen Anne Boleyn and Lady Shelton.
Mary Shelton. Mary Shelton, was the youngest daughter of Sir John Shelton and his wife, Anne Sheldon, was born in about 1520. She had three brothers and six sisters, John, Anne, Ralph, Gabriella, Elizabeth, Margaret, Thomas and Emma, and they lived at Sheldon Hall, Sheldon, Norfolk. (1)
