Edward Smith-Stanley, Lord Stanley ( 21 de abril 1775 – 30 de junio 1851 ), 13er. conde de Derby, fue un político, terrateniente, agricultor, coleccionista de arte y naturalista británico . Fue el cuarto hijo y único hijo de Edward Smith-Stanley (12º Duque de Derby) y de Élisabeth Hamilton, la hija de James Hamilton (6º Duque de Hamilton).
In 1844 he was elevated to the House of Lords with the title ‘Lord Stanley of Bickerstaffe’. He resigned from government in 1845 in protest at the proposed repeal of the Corn Laws, and became leader of the Protectionist Conservatives. Derby’s first term as prime minister was a short-lived affair.
