  1. Henry Charles Keith Petty-Fitzmaurice, 5th marquess of Lansdowne (born January 14, 1845, London, England—died June 3, 1927, Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland) was an Irish nobleman and British diplomat who served as viceroy of Canada and of India, secretary for war, and foreign secretary.

His father was killed in action in 1914 while on active service in the First World War , and his mother, the former Lady Violet Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound , later married secondly John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever .
