  3. John Claypole jnr first appeared in arms for parliamentary cause in the First English Civil War at the siege of Newark in the winter of 1645/6. [9] On 11 August 1651, during the Third Civil War , he received a commission from the Council of State to raise a troop of horse in the counties of Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire to oppose the march of Charles II into England.

  4. Claypole is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 1,382. [1] It is situated 4 miles (6.4 km) south-east from the market town of Newark-on-Trent , just east of the Grantham to Newark stretch of the A1 .
