The Soong sisters (Chinese: 宋氏姐妹; pinyin: Sòngshì Jiěmèi), Soong Ai-ling, Soong Ching-ling, and Soong Mei-ling, were three sisters from Wenchang city, Hainan island. Raised as Christians and educated in America, the sisters all married powerful men, respectively, H. H. Kung , Sun Yat Sen , and Chiang Kai-shek .
May-ling Soong herself graduated from Wellesley College in 1917. She majored in English Literature and minored in Philosophy, became a member of Tau Zeta Epsilon (T.Z.E.) student society, and was named a Durant Scholar, the highest academic distinction conferred by the College.
