Merton College, the first fully self-governing College in the University, was founded in 1264 by Walter de Merton, sometime Chancellor of England and later Bishop of Rochester. Mob Quadrangle, the oldest quadrangle in the University, was built in three phases: the Treasury c.1288-91; the north and east ranges and the Sacristy c.1304-11; and the Library on the south and west sides 1373-8.

Yes. Merton is happy to consider applications for Second Undergraduate Degrees in all the subjects we offer to undergraduates with the exception of Medicine. For graduate students interested in applying for Medicine we recommend the accelerated graduate entry Medical course, available at other Oxford colleges but not offered by Merton.

Merton College (main site) There are two car parks: one behind the Old Warden’s Lodgings, and the other adjacent to the South Lodge. Both have barriers in operation, and so visitors need to report to the Porters’ Lodge to be granted access to the parking (01865 276310).
