Welcome to Merton! We hope you’ll find plenty of information on the college and university websites about studying and living here. At our Open Days, which are held in June/July and September each year, you can join us to get a feel for the College, ask any questions you may have, and to meet our tutors and current undergraduate students.
Undergraduate Study. There are approximately 300 undergraduate students at Merton College. Merton students have a well-earned reputation for academic excellence. Merton College. Merton College was founded in 1264 by Walter de Merton, Bishop of Rochester, for twenty graduate fellows. Undergraduates were formally admitted in the early 1380s, when John Wyliot, a former fellow and sub-warden, endowed a number of scholarships, known at Merton as postmasterships.
