Valerie graduated from Wheaton College in IL and married Walt Shepard, also a Presbyterian pastor. The Lord gave them 8 children, whom they homeschooled most of their elementary and high school years. Valerie has taught Bible studies, led prayer groups, and loved learning hospitality as their family grew.

She then spent her childhood, through age 8, in Ecuador alongside her mother. A graduate of Wheaton College, Valerie and her husband, Walt, are the parents of eight. She is also the author of a children’s book, Pilipinto’s Happiness, containing memories of her Amazon upbringing.

Valerie Elliot Shepard. Valerie Elliot Shepard is the only child of Jim and Elisabeth Elliot, missionaries to the Quichua and Auca Indians (now called "Waodani," which means "the people") of the Amazon Jungle. Her father Jim, along with four other men, was speared to death in 1956 as they sought to reach the Aucas with the Gospel.
