Welcome to our MCR! The MCR is composed of postgraduates, fourth-year undergraduates and mature students affiliated with the College. In addition to occupying one of the oldest (13th-century) and most impressive rooms in Oxford’s first college, we are foremost a diverse community that aims to make every MCR member feel welcome during their time at Oxford.
Merton has one fully-adapted set of rooms, consisting of a bedroom, study and bathroom and a room for a carer, if required, which are located in the graduate annexe in Jowett Walk. Merton College, the first fully self-governing College in the University, was founded in 1264 by Walter de Merton, sometime Chancellor of England and later Bishop of Rochester. Mob Quadrangle, the oldest quadrangle in the University, was built in three phases: the Treasury c.1288-91; the north and east ranges and the Sacristy c.1304-11; and the Library on the south and west sides 1373-8.
