  1. Lord Liverpool was born Robert Jenkinson in London into a landowning family in 1770. He was educated at Charterhouse and Christ Church, Oxford. While at Oxford, he did the customary ‘Grand Tour’ of Europe, happening to witness the Fall of the Bastille on 14 July 1789. In 1790, Jenkinson was elected to the seat of Rye, which he held until 1803.
