Geografske karakteristike. Dorchester leži u unutrašnjosti grofovije, duž obala rijeke Frome, udaljen desetak km od obala La Mancha. Historija. Iz neolita ima dva značajna lokaliteta, jedan je Maumbury Rings, zemljana kružna henga južno od grada, a drugi leži 3 km jugozapadno, to je zemljana fortifikacija zvana Maiden Castle, koja se prostirala na 50 hektara.

Founded in 1846, the museum covers the county of Dorset 's history and environment. The current building was built in 1881 on the former site of the George Inn.
