Blyleven was born in the Netherlands, one of only nine major leaguers to have been born in Holland as of 2020 (several major leaguers were born in the Kingdom of the Netherlands outside Holland).

Armed with one of the best curveballs the game has ever known, he was a workhorse. Blyleven made 685 starts and had 242 complete games.
