Three biopics have come out of Hollywood, the most recent being in 1995, starring Liam Neeson in the title role. Berlioz wrote an overture to him based on Walter Scott’s novel and there is even a Rob Roy cocktail. It contains whisky, of course.

When Robert 'Rob Roy' MacGregor was born on 1 February 1671, in Glengyle, Stirlingshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, his father, Donald Glas MacGregor 5th of Glengyle, was 36 and his mother, Margaret Campbell, was 36. He married Mary Helen MacGregor of Comer on 1 January 1693, in Buchanan, Stirlingshire, Scotland.
Rob Roy Birthplace. Rob was born in Glengyle, at the head of Loch Katrine in the Trossachs area of the Scottish Highlands, on 7th March 1671. This area of Scotland was based very heavily around the clan system. As a boy, he learned hillcraft, hunting, and surviving in the wild. These skills would serve him later in his life.
