Oxford Informal Halls are basically dinners. Most Oxford University colleges hold two each evening. Students usually get their own food (the dinners are self-served) and the dinners happen early in the evening, so students can pursue other activities later. Other names for the informal hall are First Hall, Trough, Buttery, or Canteen.

The College is home to the longest Dining Hall in Oxford and provides a magical setting for really special events. Seating over 300 people, the Hall is great for accommodating large groups and is the perfect venue for a banquet or gala dinner. Guests enter the Dining Hall after coming up the grand staircase from Liddon Quad, a path trodden by students and Academic Fellows for nearly 150 years.

Gala Dinner The culmination of your programme is the Gala Dinner, a three-course, formal meal held in the dining hall. Our chefs pride themselves on making this event a real culinary experience, and it is an opportunity for you to talk with your peers, teachers, and Hertford students whilst celebrating the achievements you have made whilst studying with us.
