Pierre Gaveston (ou Pieres de Gabaston, ou encore Gavaston ; en anglais : Piers Gaveston ), né vers 1283 et mort le 19 juin 1312, est un chevalier gascon de la cour d' Angleterre, favori du roi Édouard II. Adolescent, il fait fort bonne impression au roi Édouard Ier et est assigné à la suite de son fils et héritier Édouard de Carnarvon.
Abstract. This chapter takes up the emotional dimension of Edward's relationships with his favourites, considering the significance and decline of medieval claims that Edward ‘called Gaveston his brother’; engagements in early modern narratives of Edward's reign with classical ideals of friendship; and the increasing romanticization of his relationship with Gaveston.
Gaveston’s undue prominence at the coronation aroused almost universal fury among the English nobility. ‘Now for the first time’, wrote the author of the Vita, ‘nearly all the earls and barons of England rose against Piers Gaveston.’ 1 This was a reference to the proceedings of the Lent parliament, which met at Westminster on 27 February 1308, two days after the coronation.
