13 de jul. de 2017 · Joan Clarke nació el 24 de junio de 1917 en West Norwood, Inglaterra. Estudiante brillante, ganó una beca para estudiar matemáticas en el Newnham College de Cambridge, donde consiguió el denominado Part I of the Mathematical Tripos (cursos de tres años que llevaban a conseguir una licenciatura) en 1936 acabando el trienio como una “Wrangler” (estudiante con honores).
Joan Clarke’s parents were William Kemp Lowther Clarke, a Clergyman, and Dorothy Elisabeth Clarke. She was their youngest child and had three elder brothers and one sister. Joan was educated at Dulwich High School and in 1936 matriculated at Newnham College, Cambridge, to study Mathematics.
15 de jul. de 2019 · Joan Clarke went to Cambridge to study Mathematics, and was awarded a double First in 1940. One of her supervisors was Gordon Welchman who persuaded her to come to Bletchley Park after completing her studies. On arrival she was not put into Hut 6 with Welchman, but instead was assigned to work with Turing in Hut 8.
