  1. Timothy Patrick Bowes-Lyon, 16th and 3rd Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (18 March 1918 – 13 September 1972), was a British nobleman and peer. He was the second son of The 15th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and the nephew of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, wife of King George VI. He was a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret .

  7. Lord Strathmore encouraged all his sons to play cricket as they grew up and the castle team regularly played against local teams. Tennis was played from childhood and the 13 th Earl’s son, Patrick Bowes Lyon, went on to become Scottish tennis champion in 1885, 1886 and 1888, and Wimbledon doubles champion alongside Herbert Wilberforce in 1887.
