In 1746, as Government forces scoured the Hebrides in search of Prince Charles Edward, Flora helped the fugitive leader to reach Skye, disguised as her Irish maid, Betty Burke.

They farmed at Flodigarry, Skye, until financial difficulties forced them to emigrate to North Carolina, USA, in 1774.
