22 de jun. de 2023 · Thus, when he met scholar Shri Purohit Swami, who had travelled “the length and breadth of India” prior to journeying to Europe in 1930, Yeats pitched the idea to translate the Upanishads, not for learned polyglots and orientalists, but for lay people. The Ten Principal Upanishads was first published by Faber and Faber of London in April 1937.

These ten have sometimes been called the old and genuine Upanishads. They are the classical Upanishads or the fundamental Upanishads of the Vedanta Philosophy. Some include the Kaushitaki Upanishad and Svetasvatara Upanishad also under the classical Upanishads. Sri Sankara and other Acharyas have written commentary on the ten Upanishads only.
