Around 1380, Owain Glyndwr was married here to Margaret Hanmer, the glamorous daughter of Sir David Hanmer, a Justice of the Kings Bench. In 1643, during the Civil War, Nantwich Roundheads raided the village and stabled their horses in Fenns Chapel where the organ now stands.
The estate was forfeited to the Crown following the family's support for Owain Glyn Dwr's rebellion (Owain had married Margaret, daughter of Sir David Hanmer, who was a justice of the King's Bench). John Hanmer was pardoned for his role in the rebellion in 1411 and he subsequently divided the estate between his four sons.

Owain married Margaret Hanmer (Welsh: Marred ferch Dafydd). Her father was Sir David Hanmer. Margaret had five sons and four daughters with Owain. These children were: Gruffudd - He was born around the year 1375. He was captured by the English people and had to live in Nottington Castle. He was then taken to the Tower of London in 1410.
