Indeed it was Ireton's influence, symbolised by his marriage to Bridget Cromwell, that did much to persuade Cromwell to become a regicide. Ireton's importance was through the theoretical and practical framework he provided for the revolution of 1647-9.
Ireton marschierte mit seiner Armee von Munster aus nach Norden, um Limerick im Oktober 1650 zu belagern. Doch das Wetter war zu nass und zu kalt, so dass die Belagerung recht schnell wieder abgebrochen werden musste. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Ireton joined the Parliamentary army.
