Alice was the youngest child of Sir William Edmonstone, 4th Baronet , while George was a son of William Keppel, 7th Earl of Albemarle and his wife Sophia Mary Keppel (née MacNab).
Alice was born in 1868 and raised at Duntreath Castle in Scotland.
