She was vague because she has plans on sharing her family story in some manner in the near future, but knowing how I felt about her mother and how much this interview would mean to so many of you she spoke with me via email.

  3. Back in the United States, Valerie eventually attended her parents alma mater, Wheaton College, where she graduated with a BA in English Lit, and soon after she married Walt Shepard. Valerie or Val (as those who know her well affectionately call her) has thrived as a pastor’s wife of over 44 years and busy mother raising 8 children (their 9th child in Heaven).

Walt and Valerie have eight children together, whom they have homeschooled, and lead active lives of Christian ministry. They currently reside in Southport, North Carolina.

  7. In January 1956, 10 months after the birth of their daughter Valerie, Jim and his comrades were speared by Auca Indians while attempting to make contact with them to share the Gospel. Although Elisabeth was only 28 years old when her faith was put to the test, she was well-grounded. In her moment of darkness, she sought refuge in God and His Word.
