But, to truly know NYC, one should know at least a bit about all five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. This post is a brief guide to the 5 boroughs and some suggestions of what to see in each of them.
All boroughs are part of New York City, but they are in different counties. Queens is the largest borough. Boroughs have existed since the official creation of the city in 1898, when the city and each borough assumed their current boundaries. However, the boroughs have not always been part with their respective counties.

But despite its comparatively small population, Staten Island is the third-largest borough by land area, covering 59 square miles, with an additional 44 square miles of water area falling within the borough’s limits.
