Virtual Visit. Welcome to your virtual visit to University College Durham, where you can experience what we offer. During the pandemic we were unable to welcome visitors to University College. Whilst we are now fully open and have a range of tours which can be booked, we have kept these resources for anyone interested in joining our community.
Bishop Van Mildert and the Dean and Chapter of Durham Cathedral founded the University of Durham in 1832. After Van Mildert's death in 1836, the Castle was given to the University, becoming University College in 1837. Early generations of students lived in the Castle Keep, which was reconstructed in 1840 by Anthony Salvin.

She has worked at Durham University for 25 years both in Departments, Operations and Colleges. She can offer appointments and drop in for students who have concerns about anything in College life. University College, the oldest of the 17 Durham Colleges. Durham operates a collegiate structure similar to that of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, in that all colleges at Durham, being constituent colleges of a "recognised body", are "listed bodies" in the Education (Listed Bodies) (England) Order 2013 made under the Education Reform Act 1988.

You will living in splendid accommodation within 20 minutes walk of our Riverside site where we have study, common room, bar and performance spaces. You'll be welcomed with open arms by our staff and students, our mentors and alumni.
